Following the glory of promotion in May 1990, Bristol Rovers played host to some of the biggest clubs in the country at their humble Twerton Park home. This first edition of a new series of nostalgic DVDs pays tribute to the last Rovers team to have played in what would now be the Championship, with highlights from some of the best games covered by Screen Soccer during those three memorable years. All of the opposition on this DVD have since played in the Premier League apart from Bristol City. But when you see the DVD you'll realise why we made that exception! The story begins with the first home game after promotion, a 2-1 success over Lennie Lawrence's Charlton. You can then enjoy two superb performances against North East giants: a draw with Newcastle that should have been an emphatic Rovers win, and victory over Middlesbrough. The 91-92 season was hugely enjoyable once Martin Dobson had departed! Dennis Rofe established Rovers as one of the best home sides in the division, and you will love the wins over Middlesbrough (again), Sunderland and a 3-0 thrashing of Kenny Dalglish's Blackburn. Although a relegation year, 92-93 still boasted some high points. Have Rovers ever played better and lost than they did against Kevin Keegan's Newcastle? As Keegan said, goalkeeper Tommy Wright had the game of his life. Then there was a 4-0 rout of Bristol City, Rovers’ biggest win in a derby since 1933. The final action is a genuine high point, a 1-1 FA Cup draw at Aston Villa, who were lying third in the newly formed Premier League. The wonderful spirit of the time is revealed with a sneak preview of a players' Christmas Fancy Dress Party and an international feature on Ian Holloway's personal fan club in Thailand!
